“Roots” is a performance that reimagines traditional Georgian clothing through a queer perspective. The artist becomes a living version of the Chokha—a traditional male garment—using movements inspired by ancient Caucasian rituals. Blending poetry and Georgian folk singing, the piece challenges the rigid masculinity tied to the Chokha and opens space for queer stories within cultural tradition. It reflects on how our roots—heritage, customs, and identity—can both ground us and hold us back, like tangled tree roots in the soil we love most.
